Meet Robert—better known as “Uncle Bob.”
Robert is a Veteran of the Ohio Army National Guard. He served with the 324th Military Police Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he was the oldest MP serving on convoy missions throughout Iraq.
His fellow soldiers affectionately gave him the nickname “Uncle Bob,” a name that has stayed with him long after his military service.
Since returning home in 2004, Robert has faced a new battle. His days are challenging and filled with the complications of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, heart problems, chronic pain, and more.
Over the years, these challenges caused Robert to become increasingly fearful of leaving his home.
In 2017, during one of his nightly YouTube searches, Robert discovered that other individuals living with Irritable Bowel Syndrome were using backpacks to carry the supplies they needed to leave home without worry. So, he created his own backpack—and began carrying it everywhere he went.
His backpack became lifesaving for him, providing a new sense of comfort, confidence, and security.
You can help provide an eligible Veteran with an Uncle Bob Backpack—offering comfort, confidence, and a greater sense of independence when they leave home.
Robert has grown and adapted the items he keeps in his backpack over time, but below is a list of suggested items.
